Eternity
You1, who, farther than the seas and the skies, you, who, in the depths of the earth and hell,
have found the sign of an endless faith,
and of a god full of love,
and of a god who shows you the way in life.
I, who fear life and death,
I, who do not know whence I come nor whither I go,
I now wish to ask you not to close your eyes to me,
and that you see me as I am,
for I, just as you, want to fill my heart with hope, too.
And you, who never ask for a reason,
and you, who never feel anguished by anything,
you have no right to ignore my loneliness,
think that I, just as you,
think that I, just as you, want to have eternity.
- 1. The songtext says “To you”, but I am not sure why you should be an (in-)direct object here, when it clearly seems to be the subject. Maybe a Catalan native could shed some light as to the use of “A tu” instead of a simple “Tu”. Might it just be an interjection like O you? Another possibility is that there is an omitted sentence, and the text reads something like “[This is dedicated] To you, who, ...”
