Elder Kham, the elderly woman, so kind and sweet,
No husband, no children, alone on her feet.
In the soft evening light, with a sickle in hand,
She gathers water spinach from the pond’s open land.
 

Her eyes are dim, her back is bent,
She toils in the pond until the day is spent.
Then she ties the greens in small, neat bundles,
Selling them daily to earn her humble sustenance.
 

Elder Kham once shared her story so true,
She once had a husband, a child with her too.
But one fateful day, her husband was gone,
Leaving just her daughter to carry on.
Yet before long, a scandal arose,
Her daughter eloped, leaving sorrow exposed.
Now Elder Kham is left in loneliness deep,
No kin to comfort, no family to keep.

No husband, no children - a fate so bittersweet.
Yet tonight, in the soft golden hue,
Elder Kham is gone - where, no one knew.
The water spinach wilts, lifeless and low,
What happened to Elder Kham? No one can know.
The sky turns dark, the storm clouds rise,
A monk's soft chant drifts to the skies. May Elder Kham find peace in the afterlife.
