The Great Humility

You're happy, dead friends,
That you do not see how our country is broken,
How the wolves drew lots her shirt
And our spring became winter.

I write this poem in the darkness,
Some bastards turned off our lights again,
Whom I have to swear or curse
If we, Romanians, bear all the blame?

And the gas, maybe tomorrow, will stop,
Then we'll drink rusty water,
We live this ordeal every day,
Have a good journey to the Middle Ages, Romania!

You don't even have a place to call, everyone is hiding,
You are a prisoner of the ill-mannered.
At the City Hall? You're too broken in the ass!
The Ministry? It beats you to three ribs!

No court will pay any attention to you,
You don't even exist, ordinary citizen,
The fabric of society is falling apart,
And the state is just a hungry vampire.

You don't know what 'decent living' is anymore.
You stay in the darkness, wash with cold water,
It's warmer outside than in the apartment
We are exterminated, every tenth one.

I drink my coffee sadly and thoughtfully,
I don't smoke anymore, but addiction still bites me,
I deeply regret that I am only a writer,
I'd give the pen for a rifle today.

I light a candle and see myself
In the small house of childhood,
When the storm was causing havoc in the trees,
But strong angels were facing the plague.

But then, it was after the war,
Wounded was the country and in debt -
Now she is prey to the undead
And the slave of a terrible Mafia.

I gave the light, the gas and the water
At the hands of some foreign mercenaries,
Who say they're friends, but they're digging a hole for us,
They make money out of dry stone and thorns.

Can't we manage our life?
Have I become a backward people?
Then it's clear: Spit in our face!
Do we like to be worms? ... then, let's be trampled!

This condition is humiliating
To have nothing left in your country,
And to see how the last redoubt dies
And then to pray to the death to take you.

I envy you, departed friends
Into another world, where there is light,
You are all there, sisters and brothers,
And you drink nectar, not rusty water.

God took you to heaven in time,
I see in that, perhaps, a reward,
He saved you from this miserable time
When our country is crucified.

When people cry in fists and don't have money
No food or medicine
While the politics Taliban
They make and break Governments, Parliaments.

It's a serious and general disaster,
Below than that, even can't,
Better in the pit than in the canal
And I think that only World War III
It can cure us of cowardice!
