The shroud

My mother said to me : ' I had brought a shroud
from the Holy Temple, and I was keeping it in the closet.
I used to look at it and I felt really happy, since
it would have covered my dead body, during my burial
and my soul would have been dressed properly.

It was like the roses of May
and the red apples of August
but then all turned upside down
and we fled like little sparrows1
and I haven't taken with me
even a pair of worn-out socks
we were deprived even
a cup of water.

By sunset we got naked
we lost everything

(and we lost) the shroud as well.

  • 1. They became refugees after the turkish invasion in Cyprus, 1974

I See a World

A day might turn out grey
Even though the sky is blue
At that moment I can see
My life the way it is

I see a world that's controlled inside dreams
It's empty wherever I look
I see a world in my own way
And am still surprised by everything I see

But what I'm feeling will always remain
I stand above all of Earth without any words as though in a haze
I see a world

A day we remember
Could easily become light like a sky
A day we might get to see
To, oh, to maybe get to give

I see the world take on a new form
When my dreams now has passed
I see a world that you grant me
Exactly the kind of life I've missed and longed to have

A wonder that always brings light of the future
Every day that passes becomes long years
And I see, I see my world

I feel abandoned

In this crazy life I’m living,
I can’t find any free time.
There’s no space for love,
But I realize that…

I feel abandoned without you,
Uncomfortable around people,
And I don’t know how to talk anymore.
Who knows
What it is,
This thing inside me?
But I feel abandoned.
I feel abandoned without you,
And I never get back on my feet
Until you’re near me.
You have no idea
What I go through
When you’re not here.
But I feel abandoned.
I keep thinking about you nonstop,
And as a result, I can't get anything done.
I realize that it all depends on you.
But I feel abandoned.
I feel abandoned.

Who knows
What it is,
This thing inside me?
But I feel abandoned.
I keep thinking about you nonstop,
And as a result, I can't get anything done.
I realize that it all depends on you.
But I feel abandoned.
I feel abandoned.
I feel abandoned.
I feel… abandoned.

That’s a Funny Way

[Frankie Jordan]
On one rainy day
I noticed you on Rue d’Auteuil1
[Sylvie Vartan]
Yes
[Frankie Jordan]
With an umbrella
That you jabbed in my eye
[Sylvie Vartan]
Hey now
[Frankie Jordan]
That’s a funny way, yes
That’s a funny way
[Sylvia Vartan]
Hey
[Frankie Jordan]
That’s a funny way
To catch a boy’s eye

[Sylvie Vartan]
You know, you know, wait
I told you “I’m afraid of going home tonight
I live in an awfully dark back alley”
That’s a funny way
That’s a funny way
That’s a funny way
To bring you to my house

[Frankie Jordan]
Not to mention, look what you did
You put your arm under mine (hey now)
I followed your lead
And we meandered about
Neither you nor I was truly in a hurry to get there

[Sylvie Vartan]
But at my doorstep
I curtly told you
“I have to go right now
My mother is waiting for me”
That’s a funny way
Yes, that’s a funny way
Hmm! That’s a mean way
To make a boy suffer
But I smiled as I said it
And it was then you understood
That I was only teasing you
And in the end you’re the one, you’re the one I married

[Frankie Jordan]
Since that night, I haven’t left your side
And every day, I’m right beside you
That’s a funny way, yes
Oh! That’s a funny way (hey)
But the best way for me
To say goodbye to my bachelor days2

[Sylvie Vartan]
A funny way

[Frankie Jordan - spoken]
So now you can say so, because you remember the Rue d’Auteuil, and it was quite a hit I took,
I swear, you took your umbrella and….

Hello

Hello
I don’t say goodbye, I say hello.
It feels like I’m staying close to you
If I greet you with a hello.
Hello, hello, hello, hello.
Hello
I love you, I just say hello.
I love saying it so much because
It’s a sweet sound, just like a kiss.
Hello, hello.
It’s like setting a date forever, always.
It’s like never really parting ways.
Hello
I don’t say goodbye, I say hello.
I promise I’ll think only of you
If I greet you with a hello.
Hello, hello.

Hello
I don’t say goodbye, I say hello.
It feels like I’m staying close to you
If I greet you with a hello.
Hello, hello, hello, hello.
