Farewell, Paris

Farewell paris, I'm withdrawing to the country.
Boredom sets in, enough champagne already,
I chicken out of dining and wining chicks1,
feeling the pavement wave and swell2 on my way home.

Farewell Paris, I've had it up to there.
Partying, oh, that's such a bore.
I'm off to the country, to live like a wild animal,
sleep early and drink nothing but water.

But still,
before I take my leave
and live like an hermit,
so far away from you,
O city of wonders,
let's empty one,
then two, then tree bottles
once more.

What do you know?
No sooner a cork popped
than you see la vie en rose.
Let's make the most of it. Waiter!

Bring me the menu.
We simply must enjoy
a nice casual dinner
before I go.

Farewell Paris, city of dreams and terror,
naughty city, charming city.
The bill of your happiness is quite stiff3,
but we forgive you with our loving dying breath4.

Farewell Paris, farewell Montmartre and Notre-Dame
and pretty women and nasty drama.
We hand you our souls for all eternity,
their paradise is the sky of Paris! (bis)

  • 1. lit. 'I've had enough going to dinner with [dating] the chicks'. I did a rather lame attempt to replace the pun on 'souper' with one on 'poule' (hen / chick)
  • 2. lit. 'as if the pavement was swelling (like a sea)
  • 3. lit. 'You make [us] pay so dearly for the happiness you give'
  • 4. lit. 'as we die, we love you so much that we forgive you'

Free Like This

I know that I don't belong here
I want to see how it is out there
I don't want any more leashes
Don't want to see bathtubs
I want more brushes
Just to comb me out

A world without fences
To run free like this
And to discover the dog
Inside of me

Living without boundaries
A huge garden
A world without fences
Where I can live
Always free like this!

I'm not going to stay asleep, no
Like my father on the carpet
I want more than a bone
Much more than just lunch
I want everything that
I know I can have

Goodbye to the rules
Because I will go until the end
A world without fences
It's what I want for me

No one will hold me here again
I'm gonna live always free like this
A world without fences
For me!

the urban poem

black bodies
of hunched trees
lonely
huddled
between the gray
stone bags
wearing festive necklaces
and tied up
with clay scarves.

firefly beetles
on wheels
squeeze
bumping
into traffic jams
in a hurry
wishing to
fall
inro the rut of life

passers-by get lost
in the evening twilight
falling
underground
in city crossroads
carrying
heavy
unholy thoughts
in their heads

Because you are

Yes, I sing a little song for you and me
My love for you won't stop
'Cause you smile at me
Yes, I do, I do!

'I don’t believe in it yet'
'I'm not in love yet'
I tell myself those things, but I'm already runnin' toward you

As the lights turn on one by one
In the twilight city
It feels like they are
Guidin' me to the place where you wait

Yes, I sing a little song for you and me
My love for you won't stop
'Cause you smile at me
Yes, I do, I do!

I may be the first
To confess my feelings
But that doesn't mean you've won this love

Cheap lies
And expensive kisses
Those kinds of love that could be measured in price
I can't go back to that time anymore

Yes, I sing a little song for you and me
My love for you won't stop
'Cause you smile at me
Yes, I do, I do!

Yes, I sing a little song for you and me
I’ll give you a kiss that plays
The prelude of my love
Yes, I do, I do!

Yes, I sing a little song for you and me
My love for you won't stop
'Cause you smile at me
Yes, I do, I do!

Do You Walk In The Autumn Days

Do you walk in the autumn days, when the leaves fall from the trees
Do those old wounds hurt you, do you ask how I am now
Do those old wounds hurt you, do you ask how I am now

Do you cry in the long nights, tapping on the windows of houses
Are you perhaps embraced by another, while my sorrow sleeps in my heart
Are you perhaps embraced by another, while my sorrow sleeps in my heart

The cobblestones of the street cover me and the sad east tonight
Do you walk in the autumn days, my star, I am completely alone
Do you walk in the autumn days, my star, I am completely alone

Little candles along our river, of the once beloved path
Oh dear years for me, you have already forgotten me
Oh dear years for me, you have already forgotten me
